So to help you discover new apps, we kicked off a series last month. In this post, we’ll showcase the best new apps for iPhone and iPads in September 2019. And there’s something for each one of you. So without much further ado, let’s take a look at some of the best free iOS apps that you must try this month.
1. Onyx — Workouts & Tracking
If you remember, last month we showcased a cool retro-styled workout tracker called 321 Fit. That app is a great option for those who just want to keep a tab on daily exercises. But if you’ve just started working out, it just won’t cut it. For you, we’ve got Onyx — a workout tracker which keeps tabs on your daily exercises and also acts as your personal trainer. The app recommends personalized workout routines based on your goals and gives you access to short video clips for each exercise it recommends. You can check out these clips to make sure that you’re doing things right. The free version of the app can give you a great start, but things get interesting if you go with the paid subscription. You see, the app also includes a neat feature that makes use of the TrueDepth sensor on your phone to track your workouts in real-time. It then provides live feedback on how you can improve your posture or technique to achieve the best results. And for those of you who don’t have one of the latest iPhones with a TrueDepth sensor, the app offers its entire workout catalog for free. Thoughtful, isn’t it? Download Onyx
2. Winno — Just the Facts
If you’re not interested in working out and would much rather jog your mind, then you should check out Winno — a cool news app that allows you to stay on top of all the latest news. The app features short news stories that are written, curated, and fact-checked by real people. These people also post live updates for each story, as and when things go down. And if you feel like reading more about any particular story, it also gives you access to relevant links that you can check out. Download Winno
3. Type Loop
Are you a big Instagram user? Like posting Stories with animated text? Then you’re going to love Type Loop. With the app, you won’t have to hunt for that perfect GIF every time, because you can simply make your own. Just jump into the app, change the background color or use any image you want, then add the text and customize it however you want. The app allows you to change the color and size of the text, choose from a variety of different animation styles, add cool effects and then post them directly to your linked Instagram account with a single tap. 4. Diarly – Daily Journal
Now if you’re into maintaining a daily journal, instead of posting short-lived posts on social media, then this app is for you. Diarly is a clean and minimal journal that you can use to jot down your thoughts or tasks for each day quickly. The app has a simple timeline view that lets you go through all your entries in one go. And if you want, you can also use a couple of great filter settings to find entries based on a variety of different parameters quickly. In case you want to go to a specific entry based on the date, you can use the helpful calendar view instead. But if you opt for the paid version, you can even check entries based on the location you posted them from. Customization options are also available which let you change the font size, style, and line-height for all your entries, with the paid version unlocking even more settings like custom themes, password protection and the ability to export your entries as PDF files. 5. Randy — Photo Filters
Coming back to photos once again, we have another unique app called Randy. Now if you post a lot of snaps on Instagram, I’m sure you might sometimes find it difficult to select the perfect filter. Well, Randy aims to help you with just that. The app features a simple camera app that automatically adds randomly generated filters to the photos you click. These filters are based on a couple of different variables, including sharpness, contrast, and temperature. And when I say randomly generated, I mean it. No two photos you click with the app will ever be the same. The free version of the app just generated filters based on the variables mentioned above, but if you go for the paid version, you can unlock more parameters to get even more varied results. 6. Prizmo 5 — Pro Scanning + OCR
Next up, there’s Prizmo 5 — an elaborate but easy to use document scanner that you should try out. With the app, you’ll be able to scan documents and business cards with a single tap, adjust the edges on the fly, and edit the documents before saving them to your camera roll. The app lets you capture documents in their original colors or black & white. And it even allows you to select the page format beforehand so that the scanner works as accurately as possible. But the best part about using Prizmo 5 would be its OCR functionality which is capable of recognizing texts in photos and converting it into an editable document. Isn’t that cool? Download Prizmo 5
7. LyvEdit: Edit While Recording
Rounding this month’s list is a unique video editor called LyvEdit that lets you edit videos live, as you’re capturing them. Now I’m sure you’ve never heard of an app like this before. So it is a must-try. The app offers three useful button that help you rate the interest level in the video. You can tap the buttons to highlight the best portions of a clip, the regular footage and also the boring parts. Now when you’re done capturing, you can cut, trim and split videos by dragging the section in the timeline below. Before rendering the footage, you also get the option to create a highlight reel with all the amazing footage, remove the boring parts, or leave the footage as it is. The app will then render the video based on your selection, and the result can be published as-is. You don’t even need to make any further edits. Now isn’t that convenient? Download LyvEdit
