Supported devices: This method works for both Wi-Fi and 3G versions of Note 10.1 N8000, N8013 and N8010 running Android 4.0.3, 4.0.4, 4.1.1. Note: The process is a bit risky and might brick your device. One thing you need to remember is that there is no room for errors here. Therefore you must crosscheck every step before you continue to the next one.
Rooting Samsung Note 10.1
Step 1: Download the archive file of all the necessary files for the process and extract it to a folder in your computer. The archive contains three files, one is ODIN that’s used as a flashing tool, the second one is custom recovery that will be injected using ODIN and the third one is the super user file that will flashed using the custom recovery. Step 2: After you have extracted all the files, connect your device to the computer and mount the internal SD card. Having done that, transfer CMW.SuperSU-v0.94.zip file to your phone’s internal memory. Step 3: Now reboot your device in download mode by holding down the Volume Down button+Power key at the same time and connect it to the computer. Make sure you have enabled USB debugging from Android Settings—> Developer options. Step 4: Launch ODIN with admin privileges and wait for it to detect your phone. If Samsung drivers are already installed on your computer, it will be done instantly and the “added” message will be shown on ODIN. Once the device is detected, load HighOnAndroidCWMRecoveryGTN8000.tar to the PDA section, making sure only Auto-reboot is checked and click on the Start button to inject ClockworkMod custom recovery. Step 5: After your device reboots completely, disconnect it from the computer and this time reboot in ClockworkMod recovery. To do that, press and hold Volume up button+ Power button together till you see the Samsung logo. Once you see Samsung logo, let go of the Power button but continue holding the Volume up button till you enter the CWM recovery. Step 6: Now navigate to Install zip from SD card—>Choose zip from SD card and select the file CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip to flash it. After the file is flashed, reboot your device. Well, it’s now rooted and you can do all the high-level customization on it. As the process also installs custom recovery on the device, you can install custom ROMs from XDA. The process increases the binary flash count of the device from 0 to 1 which is often checked when you claim warranty on the device. There’s a method called Triangle Away using which you can reset the counter to 0. We have already seen how to use Triangle Away while seeing how to root Note 10.1 using CF-Auto-Root and you can have a look at it if you would like to reset the counter.
Conclusion
So that was how you can install a custom ClockworkMod recover and root your Galaxy Note 10.1.
